ABOUT PENTUP

The PentUp Foundation was originally established in 2017 and became a registered charity in 2020. We are funded entirely by public donations and funds raised by aspiring athletes taking part in the events which we organise.

WHO RUNS PENTUP?

PentUp is run by a Board of Trustees and a group of enthusiastic volunteers, with experience of coaching and administering sport at an elite level, and working with military veterans across all 3 Services.

FUNDING

Since we rely on volunteers and keep our running costs low, money raised to support the work of PentUp goes straight to supporting our sports recovery programmes.

RECOVERY

Our team includes clinical professionals who can help ensure that participation in our sports recovery events is aligned with existing development and recovery plans where necessary.

TRAINING EVENTS

Each year we run an annual cycle of regular weekend training sessions which culminate in a full Modern Pentathlon competition held in October, supported by current and past Olympians. This gives our participants the opportunity to train for and compete in the ultimate Olympic discipline, in a safe and secure environment, without any prior experience.

TRAINING SUPPORT

Our aspiring athletes come from all walks of life; you don’t have to be a recovering military veteran to take part.

We take the safety and welfare of athletes seriously, and all our activities are tailored to individual levels of fitness. For horse riding, no prior experience is required, and we can safely take a novice and train them to ride a 30cm jump course by the end of the programme.

Post-traumatic stress (PTSD) is sometimes called combat stress or shell shock. It’s a mental health condition caused by trauma. Sufferers experience a wide range of disorientating symptoms that have harmful consequences.

The modern pentathlon is multi-sports discipline created for the Olympics in 1912. The PentUp Foundation has adapted this challenging competition for PTSD sufferers, providing them with a means to help recover.

DO YOU SUFFER FROM PTSD OR WANT TO GET INVOLVED BUT NOT SURE HOW?
